On View

The ON VIEW series (2014 - present) is about the act of seeing and being seen.
The works seamlessly combine dance and film to interrogate ideas about portraiture, identity and the
moving body.
On View evokes the reverential space of a portrait gallery, a place where the moving body is analysed and the nature of portraiture is dissected and queried. It celebrates artists with unique skills in seeing and being seen, exposing diverse philosophies of moving and ways of thinking through the body.

An exposé of exceptional artists, ON VIEW is designed to be flexible, in scale and venue. These live and filmed portraits can be seen as stand-alone solos or as a collection of interrelated pieces, depending on context and scale of presentation. Works are created as performance installations, gallery installations and films.

Under the radar in this work is the sense of sight. As a digital artist and choreographer Healey asks ‘how do we see’?  How do we organise and shape this information to make sense of our reality? In today’s screen culture, we experience an overwhelming deluge of moving images on a daily basis. How has the camera altered the way we see each other?

On View sets up a provocative interplay between the performers and a filmic world. Personality, gender and identity are fluid, as each performer morphs before our eyes into new theatrical constructs, as they inhabit this cinematic territory. On View illuminates the space between the elusive performer and the relatable human being.
