The Curiosities Series | 2008-12

At the heart of this series of 4 works, is a curiosity for form. The Curiosities looks at the architecture of the human body - its intricate structure and evolution, and physical and emotional complexities.

Variant 2012

Variant features an eclectic family of fascinating artists, from the very tiny to the exceptionally tall, the ultra-flexible to the emotionally radical. With humour and humanity, they reveal that one size never fits all!

Performance: 60 minutes duration

Performers: James Berlyn, Narelle Benjamin, Benjamin Hancock, Rachelle Hickson, Kiruna Stamell, Nalina Wait and Pat Wilson.

Reading The Body Installation 2010
Gesture:: Performance | Film | Dance, ReelDance installations #4
Exhibition: June 15 - 19
Io Myers Studio, UNSW
Commissioned by RealDance 2009

A single screen/double projection installation that juxtaposes the poem Reading the Body, by New Zealand Poet Laureate Jenny Bornholdt, with Healey’s dance film.  The installation, created in collaboration with digital artist Adam Synnott, offers a cinematic and spatial rendering of the poem, through choreographed movement and animation. What are the collaborative narrative possibilities between text and movement?  How does language influence the ‘reading‘ of the movement?

Duration: 6 minute loop

Installation by Adam Synnott and Sue Healey
Film by Sue Healey and Rachelle Hickson.
Animation by Adnan Lalani.
Music by Darrin Verhagen.
Cinematography by Judd Overton

The Curiosities 2009
A performance installation in collaboration with leading scientists, new media artists and dancers. Inspired by the processes of biological development and evolution, The Curiosities evokes the feeling of a surreal natural history museum, where the body is presented as a specimen for scrutiny - homo sapiens, exquisitely adapted but curious at it fringes, fragile and flawed, ever-evolving.

Premiere Season Produced by The Performance Space at CarriageWorks, Sydney October 2009.

Performance: 60 minutes duration

Performers: Lisa Griffiths, Rachelle Hickson, Adam Synnott, Nalina Wait
Animator: Adnan Lalani
Digital Artist: Adam Synnott
Composer: Darrin Verhagen
